What’s a Keligo “PhotoChoreographic Movie”?
A Keligo PhotoChoreographic Movie ("Photo Movie") comprises
still images (photos, documents), choreographed to music, using a wide
range of special effects and transitions, singularly and in combinations,
to create a dramatic sense of motion and dimension, yielding a compelling
viewing experience in movie format, recorded on DVD. Moving
Pictures and ProMotion
Pictures™ are two categories of Keligo PhotoChoreographic Movies.

2. What’s the
difference between Keligo Moving Pictures and ProMotion Pictures™?
Moving Pictures are personal Photo Movies designed to serve the private
sector whereas ProMotion Pictures are commercial Photo Movies for the
business sector. Although the technologies employed are the same, the
goals and development needs of each differ sufficiently to warrant unique
treatment. Top
3. How are Keligo Photo Movies different
from photo slide shows?
Slide shows simply flip through as series of pictures, presenting them
statically for a fixed period of time for each picture. Some slide shows
offer fades as transitions between pictures. Keligo, on the other hand,
applies a large library of digital effects
to bring a wide range of dynamic alterations to images, stimulating mood
on the part of the viewer. Top
4. What do you mean
by dynamic alterations to images?
Digital pictures can be computer-modified in many ways by applying artistic
filters, geometric distortions, color adjustments, scale changes, spatial
position and orientation translations, and so on. Significantly, the parameters
that control these modifications can be programmed to vary over time,
synchronized to music, bringing a sense of motion
to otherwise still images. Top
5. What are some examples of PhotoChoreography?
A simple and common, yet effective, example is zooming in on a feature
within a picture (synchronized to music) to dramatize, flatter, or exaggerate.
A more complex example is gradually de-focusing a selected portion of
a picture to emphasize the important feature of the image. Panning over
a zoomed image to examine all elements of the picture as an unfolding
discovery process creates suspense. Color, especially time-varying changes
to color, enhances mood. Distortions of many kinds can create an illusion
of the third dimension, accentuate features, simulate facial or body motions,
or just humorously mock a subject. Relocating a foreground of one picture
over a background of another can be used to weave a story spanning a series
of photos, enhancing the emotional impact in a variety of ways. Effects
are frequently combined to create stunning results. These are only some
examples; the possibilities are endless. Top
6. How about transitions between photos?
Dissolves and fades are the simplest and most familiar examples of transitions
used in Keligo Photo Movies. But the library of
transitions is virtually unlimited, and carefully chosen consistent
with the subject material, can enhance the mood of the PhotoChoreographic
Movie. Pictures can whimsically flip or rotate onto and off of the screen.
Cube spins provide a professional impression of the movie. Snappy stretches
and wipes can emphasize action and excitement. Zoom transitions give the
illusion of diving into a picture to find a new one. Often, multiple pictures
are displayed concurrently on the screen. Transitions involving multiple
pictures add intriguing complexity, drawing the viewer into the story.
A virtually unlimited variety of transitions and transition combinations
can be applied to elicit the desired reaction from the viewer. Top
7. What length are Keligo Photo Movies,
and how many pictures are involved?
Up to 60 minutes (without using multiple DVDs); under special conditions,
durations approaching 90 minutes are possible. The number of pictures
per minute of movie varies depending on the topic and desired emotional
experience, but as a rule of thumb, you should expect between 10 to 30
pictures per minute of movie. Sometimes, one picture is used several times
by zooming into individual elements of the picture (e.g., faces in a group
picture). Top
8. Many of my pictures are seriously deteriorated
or damaged. Can these be used?
There is almost no picture, no matter how damaged, that can’t be
restored and made useful for inclusion on a Keligo PhotoChoreographic
Movie. Advanced
restoration techniques are employed, not only to remove extreme cases
of dust and scratches, but to eliminate fade and restore color, brightness,
and contrast, to eliminate stains, repair folds and tears, eliminate color
splotches and fingerprints, and correct almost any other imaginable defect.
The restoration and archiving of priceless family history pictures is
an invaluable service offered by Keligo. Top
9. Do you use photo prints or digital photos?
Either. We scan photographic prints (and other documents) at high
resolution to avoid any visual artifacts from the scanning digitization
process. A by-product of high-resolution scanning is that you get back
image files you can use to make high quality prints, even enlargements,
either on your own computer printer or at a printing service.Top
10. What are the resolution requirements
for digital photos?
The best effects are achieved with high
resolution pictures so that pixelization is not seen. Photos taken
with 5 megapixel cameras give sensational results. Those from 3 megapixel
cameras can provide acceptable results with some restrictions, but are
discouraged. Below that, picture quality suffers. Poor resolution not
only limit the extent of zooming possible, but also result in "noise"
in the image when animated. Top
11.
Can video clips be used in combination with stills?
Yes! Judicious use of action clips, in stark contrast with the stills,
can create great impact. But excessive use of video clips can destroy
the intent and mood of the movie and reduce it to an ordinary video. The
software used by Keligo is designed for making movies using both still
images and video clips, and in fact is used by the motion picture industry
for special effects in the making of feature length motion pictures. Ask
Keligo for specifics about video clips. Top
12. How are Keligo Photo Movies planned
and designed?
We partner with you to come up with the desired production. You decide
on topic, length, and mood of the movie and supply the photographs and
other source documents if any. Procedures are a bit different depending
on the kind of Photo Movie:
Moving Pictures – Best results occur when you organize
the photos in the rough sequence that you believe best tells the story.
If captions are desired, you create those, but keep in mind excessive
use of captions can slow the movie progress and distract or bore the viewer.
Keligo creates a rough draft of a movie for your approval of concept from
this material and from guidance you provide. After any changes are made
based on your review, Keligo produces a final draft and again seeks your
approval. Once you approve, Keligo produces the final version and “burns”
the agreed upon number of DVDs.
ProMotion Pictures – We will develop a project
plan to fit your needs. After you contact Keligo, we will work together
to scope the project and determine the division of work responsibilities.
With that, we will provide a project plan upon which a schedule and price
quote can be based. Top
13. My pictures seem uninteresting and
ordinary. Can you make Photo Movies from these?
Absolutely! What seems uninteresting in a photo comes to life and gains
excitement and intrigue when put into motion using Keligo’s PhotoChoreographic
effects. Properly produced, a collection of “ordinary” photos
can make a movie that warms the heart and brings a joyful tear to the
eye. Top
14. What music is used?
You may specify and supply whatever music you like (on CD). Also, Keligo
owns rights to a (small) collection of music, and something from that
collection could well meet your needs. Keligo can work with you in making
your selections. Music selection is one of the first activities in making
a Photo Movie. Essentially, when you commission Keligo to produce your
custom PhotoChoreographic Movie, you hire us as your expert technician
to record your material but in a unique format compared to slide shows
or videos. Top
15.
Can audio messages be included?
Yes, any audio files can be included and mixed (e.g., voice over background
music) . Top
16.
How long does it take for Keligo to make a Photo Movie?
Moving Pictures – The time required is dependent
on the length of the movie, the number of photos to be included, and whether
the photos are prints requiring restoration, digital files of photos requiring
restoration, or digital files of photos to be used as-is. For general
planning purposes, allow two weeks from the time the photos are provided
to delivery of final DVD(s) for movies of three to five minutes in length.
A 60-minute movie may take three months depending on movie complexity.
Studio backlog can introduce further lead time.
ProMotion Pictures – The dependencies on movie
length and number of pictures is the same as for Moving Pictures, but
because of the in-depth development requirements with company staff, time
of development will be negotiated. Top
17. How much does it cost to
have a Keligo Photo Movie made?
Moving Pictures – The price is dependent on movie
length, number of photos, and photo prints vs. digital files, and if prints,
the degree of restoration required. For rough project budgeting, you can
use the rule of thumb of $5 per image including basic restoration for
short movies, with cost/image reduced for longer movies.
ProMotion Pictures – Pricing depends on the scope
of the project and unique development needs. Keligo will provide either
fixed-price or time-and-material quotes on request. Top
18.
Must I use Keligo’s print scanning service or can I scan them myself
or have another party scan them?
It’s your choice as to a scanning service. If you elect to have
a party other than Keligo scan your prints, please first ask us about
scanning
requirements so you get the best possible quality for your Photo Movie.

19.
Must I use Keligo to restore old prints?
Although Keligo achieves sensational results in restoring photos, you
may wish to restore them yourself or have a third party restore them.
Keligo will use those restored photo files as-is, or recommend additional
restoration be done by Keligo to get the best quality results. You
make the call. Top

How do I start?
Moving Pictures – Contact Keligo
for personal movies. In that email, outline your thoughts as to the movie
length, number of pictures, and mood. Indicate if pictures will be digital
files from (a) a digital camera or (b) from scanned prints, or if you
want Keligo to scan photos. Please indicate how old your photos are if
you wish to have Keligo scan them. Keligo will reply with a budgetary
quote and estimated delivery date.
ProMotion Pictures – Contact Keligo
including a brief description of your project. Keligo will contact you
to begin the dialog for scoping the project, developing the project plan
and providing schedule and pricing. Top

How do I send photographs and other materials to Keligo, and how are they
returned?
Although the postal service is very reliable, Keligo recommends you send
your photos and/or image files on CD by UPS, FedEX, Airborne, or a similar
professional service with delivery tracking services. Keligo will return
your material, as well as your DVD(s) and photos on CD (including restored
photos), in the same manner. For delivery instructions, contact Keligo.
