PhotoChoreography SamplesKeligo's PhotoChoreography is achieved using a large variety of effects including dynamic (time-varying) photo transformation effects and dynamic transitions between photos, as well as static photoprocessing filters for artistic effects. Although an enormous number of possibilities are available, typically a small collection is used for any given movie consistent with the mood and theme of that movie. For example, whereas bizarre effects might be appropriate for a Halloween party movie, only the simplest and most artful and subtle effects would be used for a memorial movie so as not to distract from the mood, rather to enhance the mood. "Transform" refers to a time-varying change to an image. Transforms include color/saturation/contrast, shape, rotational orientation, aspect ratios, perspectives, cropping, spatial position on screen, scale (zooming), various distortions (fisheye, cylinder, ripples, and so on), focus, diffusions, embosses, posterization, solarization, and so on. Foreground/background separations can be used to treat a foreground independently from a background (e.g., fading and defocusing backgound of color picture to B&W while slowly zooming into increasingly saturated foreground) and mixing one foreground with a background of a different picture. Transforms also include operations on photos to which static filters have been applied, for example, to dissolve between the original and the filtered version. Click on an image to download a short QuickTime movie which demonstrates the described effect(s). You need a QuickTime player to view these clips. If you do no have one, click here for a free download. Please keep in mind you will not be viewing true PhotoChoreographic Movies, just examples of effects used to make such movies. Just as listening to individual musical instruments doesn't give you the sound and feelings of a full symphony, viewing these visual tools does not show you a blended Keligo PhotoChoreographic Movie nor impart the emotion. The screen size of the clip is small to make for a speedier download. Actual PhotoChoreographic Movies are full size, no different than a standard DVD movie. To minimize load time, picture resolution for these samples is considerably less than actual photos used on PhotoChoreographic Movies. Clips reveal indications of compression that was used to minimize file sizes for viewing on this website; actual photo movies are free of such artifacts. |
Color Variations. Black and White photographs can be selectively colored. Features (e.g., foreground people) can be isolated so that the background color can be altered indepedently of the foreground. Saturation, contrast, levels, etc., can be time-variable. Color backgrounds behind photographs, static or dynamic, reinforce mood. [1.1MB] | |
| Distortions. This sample clip shows how distortion can be used to add humor. This effect can also be a powerful way to focus viewers' attention or exaggerate features as in a caricature. [1.3MB; with sound] | ||
| Foreground separations from background and recombination. By extracting features into layers (e.g., foregrounds from backgrounds), different treatments can be applied to each layer. In the sample clip, this effect is used to create a sense of mystery. Extractions can be used to draw attention to important features and soften image flow, unlike slide shows. [820KB] | ||
| Selective blurring. Blurring to simulate defocusing brings attention to the desired feature. In this clip, the family is initially in focus, but as it proceeds, only the grandparents remain in focus.[900KB] | ||
| Blending photos. Related photos can be blended to give an effect of a single picture. In this clip, the first picture, a top-down shot of the gravestone seen in the foreground of the second picture, is blended with the second to create the sensation of a camera sweeping from one point of view to another. Aspect ratio and scale of the gravestone in the first picture is dynamically altered to match its position in the second photo. [4.6MB; with sound] | ||
| Rotation and Zooming. This clip demonstrates playful combinatons of rotation and zooming. Look closely at the beginning of the clip to watch the student in the back row zoomed to a closeup. [4.5MB; with sound] | ||
